What’s so great about eggs that we decided to create a whole family of egg white wraps based on them?
Oh… you know…only everything!
We think that eggs are nature’s perfect food: an elegant little package crammed with essential nutrients, but modest in calories – perfect for clean eating and maintaining a low carb diet.
To start, eggs are a terrific source of high-quality, easy-to-digest, clean protein. Are eggs gluten free? You bet! Both the whites and the yolk contain protein.
- Egg whites are fat free and cholesterol free, composed almost entirely of protein.
- Egg yolks also contain protein, plus about 5g of fat, and a variety of essential vitamins and minerals.
Eggs are an excellent source of brain-building choline, an especially important nutrient for pregnant women and growing children; biotin and Vitamin B12, nutrients essential to our metabolism’s proper functioning; and selenium, which supports your body’s natural immune defenses and is essential to thyroid health.
Eggs are also one of the few foods that naturally contain bone-building Vitamin D.
In terms of the macronutrients, eggs are about as low carb as a food comes. As in zero carbs. Zilch. A big (wait for it…) goose-egg. No carbs mean that eggs and foods made primarily from them should have a negligible effect on your blood sugars – which is great news if you’re trying to keep your energy levels steady or manage your glycemic control.
Which is why replacing white (refined) flour-based tortillas with egg-based alternatives, was a pretty genius idea, if we may say so ourselves.
